Serbian President announces his intention to request additional gas volumes from Russia – Business & Economy
BELGRADE, December 25. / TASS /. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic plans to have telephone talks with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Saturday and request additional gas volumes for the country.
âWe will have over 6 million cubic meters of gas. Tomorrow I will have another telephone conversation with President Putin. Among other things, I will ask for additional gas volumes, we will also discuss all other issues, analyze everything that has happened during the year, âVucic said in an interview broadcast by TV channel Prva on Friday.
On December 14, the Serbian leader said he hoped his country would soon accept additional purchases of Russian gas at a reduced price. Serbia currently needs an additional 6 million cubic meters of gas per day, which can only be bought at a high price on a commodity exchange. On December 9, Vucic said Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller had assured him that the republic would not be left without gas, adding that Serbia and Russia were discussing the possibility of additional gas purchases due to the cold.
Miller and Vucic had a video call on Dec. 7 to discuss gas supply issues. It was noted that in January-November 2021, Gazprom’s gas deliveries to Serbia were 57% higher than in the whole of 2020.
Russia has kept the price of gas for Serbia at $ 270 for the next six months after the Sochi talks on November 25. After this period, Belgrade will benefit from what Vucic called “exceptional” terms of the long-term gas contract.
