Russian RZD completes construction of Serbian railway tunnel and viaduct
BELGRADE (Serbia), April 20 (SeeNews) – Russian railway infrastructure engineering company RZD International has completed construction of the Cortanovci rail tunnel and viaduct in Serbia, it said on Tuesday.
The project, which includes Serbia’s largest viaduct and the country’s first ballast-free tunnel, was completed six months ahead of schedule and will be part of the high-speed Stara Pazova-Novi Sad section of the Belgrade-Budapest line, has declared RZD International. in a report.
Ahead of the commissioning of the facilities, scheduled for late 2021, overhaul of the catenary system, track laying, as well as pre-launch tests will be carried out this fall, said RZD International.
The Serbian government accepted in November 2017 funding of 247.9 million euros ($ 299.2 million) for the reconstruction project of the Stara Pazova-Novi Sad railway section of the Belgrade-Budapest line on Serbian territory with RZD International.
The length of the viaduct is 3 km and the height of the individual pillars is 26 meters. The viaduct is located at the exit of the Cortanovci tunnel opposite the town of Sremski Karlovci in the Danube floodplain. The Cortanovci tunnel consists of two parallel boreholes with a total length of 2.2 km.
